A Delicious Cuppa with PG Tips Tea Bags
PG Tips Tea. A fantastic tea brand featuring a cheeky little monkey that everyone loves. A few years ago I got one of the little knitted monkeys with a tea order. He sat on my shelf for ages. Just had a look and he’s not there. Think he made a dash for it :(
Anyway, let’s get on with the post. I’m settled down in my office with a mug of this tea to drink while I type. I love the fact that I am sitting typing this post while drinking the actual tea bag in the photos :)
PG Tips Tea Bags (200) – The Outer Box Packaging
The outer packaging box is approx 19cm length, 19cm wide and 15cm high. It feels solid to the touch and won’t be easily damaged being delivered.
Along the front and top of the box are little-perforated grooves which allow you to transform the box into an open display box. Don’t be an idiot like me and turn the box on its side while folding the flap back. The box won’t magically keep the envelopes inside, you will be picking them all up off the floor like me.
The PG Tips brand logo is very prominent on the box, especially when you open the box into the display case. The Rainforest Alliance logo can also be clearly seen on the display case.
On the rear of the box, there is some nutritional information. Basically, there is less than 1 kcal and approx 0.1g protein in a mug without sugar or milk. And pretty much nothing of any other nutrients per mug. Good news for those of us watching our calories, not so good for Paul in our warehouse who adds 4 sugars and lots of full-fat milk to a cuppa. We tried to educate him, but he sneaks around the warehouse pocket munching chocolate all day. Super sweet-tooth.
The footprint of the box is not very large, so it takes up minimal counter space. Ideal when you don’ want massive boxes of tea taking over your worktop.
PG Tips Tea Bags (200) – The Envelope and Bag
While is doesn’t say what material is used for the envelopes on the box, it feels like a glossy paper or plastic. The print on the envelope is high quality and has the brand logo and Rainforest Alliance logo featured on the front. On the reverse there are simple instructions for making the tea and a little recycle logo with the monkey putting the wrapper in the bin.
The envelope has a little tear notch on the top edge of the envelope. It was very easy to open and the tea bag came out easily. The tea bag was very compact and sturdy to the touch. The little tag was securely attached to the tea bag and came away very easily without any damage to the bag.
PG Tips Tea Bags (200) – The Tea
I have had quite a few mug of this tea so far (perk of the job). However, there is no information on the box about what is actually in the tea bags. Even having a quick look on the website, the available information is thin in content. There is some information on Wikipedia about there being between 12-35 single estates at any one time in your brew depending on seasons etc. Yet, it would be nice if they gave a little more information about this on the box.
I only take a splash of milk in my tea. Initially, I brewed it for 3 minutes. I remember looking at it brewing and thinking that maybe 3 minutes was a little too long. Then I noticed on the packaging that it says brew 1-2 min as a guide. I have no idea where 3 mins came from. I am convinced that it said 3 mins somewhere on the packaging, but I cannot find it (probably because it doesn’t so it).
The brew has a nice red/brown colour tone to it, and initially, in the mouth, it is dry and malty. There is a nice texture to it and it settles well on the palate. I have really enjoyed this tea and would recommend anyone to give it a try.
