Blackberry Hot Chocolate Recipe
Blackberry Hot Chocolate Recipe: The nights have definitely been getting longer recently, the trees are losing their leaves and that can mean only one thing. Winter drinks are back on the menu! Now is the time for those heavy, warming, satisfying drinks like Blackberry Hot Chocolate. It definitely hits the spot late in the afternoon when you’ve been browsing the Christmas Markets and the lights are just coming on.
Recreating that magic at home, however, allows you to indulge whenever the mood strikes. It is a quick and easy recipe to create.
A note on the ingredients: Surprisingly, the flavour comes from blackberry, not cherry syrup, but if you only have one syrup, then cherry will do. The syrup is sweet, so using cocoa will give you a real chocolatey hit that many might find a little overpowering, so we’ve opted to use a quality drinking chocolate instead.
How to make blackberry hot chocolate
Makes one mug:
- 250 ml milk plus a little extra for mixing
- 1 scoop of hot chocolate powder
- 30 ml blackberry syrup (approx 3 squirts if you have a pump)
- Squirty cream
- Cherry syrup, chocolate syrup and chocolate flakes to decorate
Method:
- Heat the milk until hot, but not boiling. Steaming it with a milk frother will add to the authenticity of the drink, but popping the milk in the microwave for a couple of minutes will be fine.
- While the milk is heating, mix the blackberry syrup, hot chocolate and a drop of milk in a large mug. You want to make a thick but easy to stir paste to be sure that you don’t leave any powder at the bottom
- Add about half the hot milk to the mug and stir to combine, using a whisk will make it extra frothy. Then top up with the rest of the milk making sure to get the froth if you frothed it.
- Decorate with lashings of squirty cream and drizzle cherry or chocolate sauce. Crushing a chocolate flake bar will give you chocolate crumbs to sprinkle over the top.
